Built in 1931 by Léopold Bévière, the Liberté Gymnasium is a testament to industrial-style architecture, with its brickwork, large windows allowing a generous amount of natural light, and large doors adorned with wrought-iron mouldings. The Art Deco façade is a heritage feature of Les Lilas that must be preserved and perpetuated through this refurbishment project.
The sports hall is a third-category building open to the public, spread over four levels, including a basement. The main sports room and reception hall rises through a triple-height space spanning the three levels above the basement. The programme includes a multi-sport activity hall, changing rooms and sanitary facilities, a reception area, a caretaker’s lodge, storage rooms, and other technical areas.
